Chapter 22: Chanti
I knew how to remove the spell on Asha, but it was going to require more energy than I had right now. That was why I needed Aisling. Hopefully, she was strong enough to handle the working we would be doing. Iâve drained myself before and that wasnât the most enjoyable thing I ever wanted to experience again. Ever.
Standing outside near the gardens, it tempted me to go in, but when Rowan sped by, I decided against it. He was probably off to see Rae which I thought was the best thing ever. Hope it worked out, although they we all knew they would deny anything and everything. Clearly, seeing Rorik dug up some emotions I thought I had tampered down after getting on the plane from LAX.
Guess I was very wrong.
I canât get the idiot vampire out of my mind. It was like one of those itches you tried to scratch at compulsively and, but it never got better. In fact, it got much worse. Rorik was that itch. Ugh. I needed to focus on my girl and not the male. Hoeâs before broâs or whatever the phrase most humans used.
There was nothing left for me out here. At some point and more than likely soon, I was going to have to face the vampire. Might as well pull off the band aid fast or whatever Asha like to say. Making the decision to finally go back inside, I stopped when I heard my name coming from a high-pitched squeal. I twisted back to find a blur of red flaming hair come running my way. I braced for impact and laughed when Aisling bear hugged me. Didnât realize I needed it but apparently, I did.
âGirl, I am so sorry about Asha. Iâll do whatever I can to help.â
âThanks,â I tried my best to keep the tears inside.
âHey cousin of mine. You ran off and left me.â I knew the bass voice of Jabari from anywhere. Even though I was mad at him too, I was glad to see him. I pushed Aislingâs hair out of the way to find Jabari walking up to us with Remy at his side. âWhen you left, I went snooping around her place.â He pointed at Aisling.
âHe saw me,â Remy chimed in with a smirk lifting at the corners of his face. âSaid he was coming along as well. No matter what I thought.â
Seeing Jabari is what made the dam break and down came the tears. A sob escaped me, and Aisling held on tighter, trying to soothe me. It wasnât the same, but Iâd take it. Jabari strode over and took over âcrybaby witch duty.â I had some of my family with me and that was a good thing, but a girl could only take so much.
âIâll show Aisling to the room,â Remy said.
I didnât look up, but I heard their footsteps become fainter as they went away. Once alone again, Jabari held onto me tighter. A few more sobs escaped but knowing I had Jabari with me, seemed to make things better.
